At a time when energy security is forefront and centre in the public’s consciousness, RES are disappointed with Rushcliffe Borough Council’s decision to refuse the application for the proposed Kingston Solar Farm. Not only is the planning committee’s ruling at odds with the case officer’s recommendation to approve the scheme, this outcome is also a missed opportunity to help deliver cheap electricity for consumers.

The location of this crucial piece of infrastructure was chosen for its proximity to a viable grid connection, its good solar irradiation levels and the limited visibility of the site within the local area due to existing and proposed new surrounding woodland and hedgerows.

Following Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refusal of its application for the Kingston Solar Farm, in September 2023, RES lodged an appeal. All parties with an interest in the Appeal had an opportunity to make comments on the proposal so that the Planning Inspector may be aware of all views and information in deciding whether to grant planning permission. The closing date for comments was Tuesday 26th March 2024.  The public inquiry started on Tuesday 21st May. Further information on the planning appeal can be found at https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/ using the 7-digit reference number 3329235.
